Metadata is what really makes IoT Open the flexible platform it can be. The following objects can have arbitrary metadata.

  • Organization
  • Installation
  • Device
  • Function
  • User

How metadata is used is really up to you as the user. Remember that metadata can be used to select the objects you want through the API or integration. E.g. if you add a meta key building and floor to your functions you can easily fetch all temperature data from floor X in building Y.
